Projects
The goal of the GPC is to work closely with the Town of Greenwich,
and in particular the Department and Board of Parks and Recreation,
to develop a plan for the restoration and preservation of town-owned
buildings and historic structures at Greenwich Point. Our goal is to
coordinate efforts with the groups and constituencies that share an
interest in the Point (most of which now have members of their leadership
represented on our Board), with the main focus being (a) researching and
fully understanding the history of the buildings and other historic features
of Greenwich Point, and (b) raising funds needed to assist the town in
accomplishing the restoration and preservation of these buildings and
features. The group has not formally named a specific restoration project
at Greenwich Point yet, but is interested in several potential buildings,
including Innis Arden Cottage (Queen Anne), the Chimes building,
the Seaside Museum building (the oldest surviving structure at
Greenwich Point, built in 1887), the Cow Barn, and others.
The group will choose an “inaugural project” in close cooperation with
town officials. Gifts from the GPC to the Town of Greenwich must be
accepted by the Greenwich RTM.
